The good old days?

The year was 1974.

Young Jeannie was a freshman at A&M.

Unsure which direction to take in life, she opted for an aptitude test by the career center.

And there the results lay hidden

tucked away for years inside a cabinet smelling faintly of moth balls

until being unearthed two weeks ago.

So, without further ado...

THE RESULTS

Low scoring career options:
1. social worker (shocker)*
2. executive housekeeper (second shocker)*
3. sewing machine operator (this is an option on a college career test?)
4. interior decorator (she is still reeling from the disappointment of this one)

High scoring career options:
1. radiological technician (please note: NOT a radioloGIST.)
2. YWCA staff member (do they have these anymore)
3. airline stewardess (flight attendant people!)
4. model (who takes a career test that offers "model" as an option?)

Those that know my mother are cracking up, and those that don't might be laughing as well but mainly at the hilarity of career options. Really? This is a bright freshman attending a four year college and the list of career options include sewing machine operator and executive housekeeper? Her highest score and greatest ambition is radiological technician--not even radiologist?

I guess she saw the writing on the wall and decided staying at home and raising her precious children sounded better than standing in front of cancer rays for the next 30 years.

Good choice mom!

  3. I'm just wondering what questions led to the model result. Do you like to stand around looking depressed in expensive/ridiculous clothing? Do you hate food?
